The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Providing Your Kids With Cell Phones
It looks like in the world today, most children have cell phones but people always wonder if this is the wise thing to do. It is a question that begs answers and many parents are left in a quandary as to what is best for their children. There are two sides to the argument.
The major reason for letting children have cell phones is the issue of safety; because parents know that if the children have cell phones, then they can be reached more easily. It also comes in handy incase the child has some emergency and needs help.
It is good that most of the phones in the market today have what is known as GPS capability for locating somebody through the cell in case of he or she is lost or missing. These are some of the quite logical reasons why a child should be let be with a phone.
Even though those parents who do not support this idea say the children are not yet responsible enough to be given the cell phones, they tend to stick to the fact that the youth are likely to abuse the trust bestowed on them by parents. The parents can point to the fact that youth are always seen talking endlessly on phone to their friends.
The short text messages are seen by children and teens as recreational even though the parents take this as a strong point for not allowing them time with the cell phones because they misuse them.
Since parents know exactly what their children are like, they would be in the best position to make the decision on this matter. They are also the ones to decide at what point their children should be allowed to go ahead and own phones.
It would be wise for parents to just set a time limit when dealing with such issues since the parent has a right to exercise parental control over how they use the phone.
In case you are one of the parents who have decided that the children should not have cell phones, then stick to the decision you have made no matter what. Do not shift from this position through sweet talking by your child and do not allow other parents to dissuade you. You would be exercising parental control which is a good thing to do.
