Making Sense Of The Cell Phone Industry
There are so many options these days for cell phones and cell phone plans, that it becomes very difficult to decide on a plan. If you are only seeking a basic phone and service, it can be very difficult to find the right plan with all the options to choose from. And salespeople at cell phone stores will always work hard to sell you more than you are really looking for. The display floors are crowded with the newest, greatest phones with the most features, and the plans that support such phones.
It is almost certain that as soon you choose a cell phone plan to meet your needs and sign the contract, the company will advertise a new plan, with more minutes than the plan you just purchased. Only under very unusual circumstances will they allow you to change to the improved plan, so you are basically trapped in the inferior plan for at least a year.
Therefore, you may find that your best bet is not to choose a cell phone plan at all, but to opt for a prepaid service that will allow you to dictate exactly what you are willing to spend. The prepaid option also allows you to avoid having to pay a monthly fee, as well as allowing you to avoid having to sign a contract. You also will not have to worry about running out of minutes and being hit with expensive overage charges, making this option even more appealing.
The younger generation is very fast to embrace new technologies, while their grandparents and other senior citizens are often not as enthusiastic. So for seniors who still desire to have a cell phone for emergencies and convenience, the best option might be a cheap plan, because the regular ones will probably be more expensive than they want to pay and really offer too many minutes. Fortunately, there are plans designed specifically for seniors and these would probably be a good idea, also. Many cell phones are on the market with multiple features on them, but you can also still get a very basic cell phone that will only have the necessities.
While looking for a cell phone and plan for the first time can be overwhelming and confusing, it does get easier with subsequent phones and plans. Some people upgrade their phone annually, while others will keep the same phone for as long as it is still working. The cell phone companies are constantly offering newer phones with newer, greater features and better plans to convince as many people as they can to make the switch to their company.
