Greetings everybody, I'd like to take a little bit of time to introduce website I have been working on, SatelliteMapReview.com. One of my biggest interests and fascinations in life has been the great outdoors and I love anything which involves adventure. I grew up in the Lake District area of England and since a small boy I have been interested in any kind of outdoor sports, be it hiking, trekking, camping, biking, I love it. For a long time anything to do with outdoor sports required a good map and the accurate use of a compass alongside it. But you know what, things have changed quite a lot in the last 10 to 12 years. From the early 2000s accurate GPS signals have been available for civilian use and there has been a growth in the world of handheld GPS for use in adventure sports.

Greetings everybody, I’d like to take a little bit of time to introduce website I have been working on, SatelliteMapReview.com. GPS is now used commonly by outdoors enthusiasts so I decided to build a resource site which explains a little bit more about the GPS handheld available.

So, how does SatelliteMapReview.com work and what kind of information does it offer? First of all, I’d like to invite you over to the website at have a look around. I’d really like to know if what I am doing is a good job in terms of explaining GPS and the types of things you can expect from the brands and models available. There is a contact form available to get in touch with me so please let me know if I’m on the right track! All of the reviews and information on the website is written by myself and I’ve been careful with my recommendations or otherwise so that you get the full picture of any GPS. Also I’ve got price comparisons data which gives the best prices available for the GPS model required.

On SatelliteMapReview.com I look primarily at the three main brands of outstanding quality handheld GPS. These are Satmap, Memory Map, and Garmin. I want to make sure my readers get the best information on particular features and benefits from each device available on the market. From the Satmap range I look at the Satmap Active 10 Plus. This is an award-winning handheld GPS device whose main strength rests upon fantastic digital rendering of Ordnance Survey maps on screen. You can get a fantastic range of navigational options as you zoom and pan around the map, calculaing direction, bearing, location and the characteristics of your nearby environment.

In terms of Memory Map I look in particular at the Adventurer series which consists of the 2800 and its big brother, the 3500. Similar to the Satmap Active 10 Plus, these powerful touchscreen powered GPS readers which give a fantastic and lifelike rendering of Ordnance Survey maps on the screen. The Memory Map Adventurer 2800 is slightly smaller than the 3500, the larger model being available with a stylus option and also the opportunity to use in conjunction with marine charts for those who like to get out on the water.

Finally, I’ve got Garmin and in particular I am looking at the Garmin eTrex range, the GPSMap range, the Dakota and Oregon series and the latest and greatest addition, the Garmin Montana 600 series. Each of these ranges have their own strengths and they are suited to different budgets. Coming up on the website shortly I will have reviews of the latest from the eTrex range, the 10, 20 and 30 models.

I’ve tried my best on my website to be as honest and objective as I can with the new models which come into my hands. I want to make sure the best information is there for GPS users so that people can make informed choices and learn more about this growing field. In addition to comparing prices and features on the different handheld GPS I’ve also got a blog going where you can find out more interesting stuff about the development of GPS, the Ordnance survey and the sport of geocaching. So, come on over to SatelliteMapReview.com and have a look around. Finally, thank you for reading.

There’s much more on popular GPS like the Garmin Oregon 450T GPS and the Garmin Oregon 550T GPS at these links.

While you are traveling outside, it is essential to have the right equipment for your safety and comfort.

While you are traveling outside, it is essential to have the right equipment for your safety and comfort. While walking through areas of thick undergrowth or rough terrain can be challenging, and taking a GPS device with you is a smart option, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the location.

There are a many of GPS Navigation systems available on the market currently. The wide variety of brands and model types make the selection of a perfect navigation system confusing and tough. Companies offer different models at times, and they also come in a broad spectrum of prices. So, it is very important for you to know what factors you should consider before you purchase one. It is wise if you try to get a clear picture in your head of what you want.

Basically, nav. systems function as your directional guide. It helps you get from one place to another. This is accomplished by creating waypoints. Imagine you are strolling in a maze, and in order to return to your point of origin, you need to leave some markers, which will make it easy for you. The waypoints are more or less the same. They are like markers that assist you find your way back, in case you are lost. This is such a very important feature of a navigation system, especially for tough terrain. When you are skiing, this can become extremely helpful. So, first thing you have to check is the nav system capability to provide you waypoints. It will also be fabulous if the model is capable of adding up or storing new mapping points in its memory.

Another thing you should consider is the ability of your GPS to reach rough places. You must take notice that not all devices can pick up strong signals from satellites. If you are planning for an outdoor excursion, this detail is crucial.

When you have a Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) enabled nav system it will surely make it delightful for you to enjoy skiing with ease. Wide Area Augmentation Sytem (WAAS) is a satellite system that works in tandem with fixed stations on the ground that gives the GPS receiver signal corrections, thus giving you a pinpoint accurate position than a traditional GPS device reading. In average conditions, it can pinpoint your location five times better than a regular GPS reading. If your device is WAAS-enabled, then it can provide you a position accuracy a few meters.

In addition, from its essential functions, you must also keep in mind the physical characteristics your GPS device offers. Being handy while outdoors is an essential detail. Having a GPS device that is not bulky or heavy will be a plus factor for your excursion. Convenience in using the product is also vital. Display screens can be a factor, as well. I prefer the colored ones, as they are easier to follow than the black and white screens. Battery life plays a vital role also. I don’t think you would like to be in the middle of rugged places without any idea where you might be. Make sure that the unit offers a decent running time for its batteries.

At the top of the leading brands on the market today, I recommend the Garmin eTrex Legend HCx. This GPS provides a high-sensitivity receiver for your GPS device, which allows clearer reception wherever you may be. It is also WAAS-enabled. The Garmin eTrex Legend HCx also has a anti-glare display screen that is readable even in direct sunlight. The eTrex Legend has taken into consideration all of the necessary needs of outdoors enthusiasts and have not missed a thing.

Holy Cow! That was some article www.GarmineTrexLegendHCx.com Garmin eTrex For more good writing, look here: Garmin eTrex Venture

As a businessperson, you need to communicate with your customers, workers, partners, and other business related persons on a regular basis. However, because some of these people are far away in foreign countries, reaching them can be quite expensive. However, with a world phone and an international sim card, you will be able to make international calls to any destination without having to dig deeper into your pocket. Most of the international telephone service providers provide a standard rate for all international calls. This can really help you to make calls to various destinations without any extra charges. This can also help you to settle most of your business matters on the phone saving the cost of having to travel to different places.

It took quite a few different technological advances before GPS could become the system it is today. It was during the middle of the 20th century that scientists needed a way to measure the movement of atomic particles with much more precision afforded them by using a simple quartz watch. After Einstein’s theory of relativity and other scientific advances the search was on to find a way of harnessing the movement of atoms in a way which could measure time. Just before the end of the Second World War a research team from MIT in Massachusetts took a giant leap forward in creating what would become known as the atomic clock. They managed to project a beam of atoms across an oscillating electromagnetic field, and managed to resonate the frequency of the atoms with the oscillation in order to generate pulses of time. The subsequent development of the atomic clock would measure time accurate to the billionth of a second and was crucial in the development of GPS.

In the late 1950s Sputnik became the first ever satellite to orbit the Earth. Again it was American researchers that quickly realised the theoretical usefulness of the satellite in terms of navigational purposes. They calculated, using the Doppler effect, that the radio frequencies of the approaching and departing satellite could be calculated in order to give an exact positioning of the object. Also because the object was 11,000 miles above the Earth its trajectory could be predicted incredibly accurately. With growing knowledge the US military developed its own satellite navigation system in the 1960s and called it the Transit System. Satellites were put into orbit around the poles, and nuclear submarines carrying the Polaris nuclear deterrent were able to take the signals in order to calculate their position beneath the waves.

The Navstar system had its inception following meetings at the Pentagon in the early 1970s. The idea was to improve on the current imperfect system of GPS by having 24 satellites built, each with four atomic clocks to ensure their complete accuracy in terms of time and position in orbit. The satellites, built by Rockwell International, were launched in a way that at any one time at least four satellites covered any given area on the earth. Each satellite would emit a continuous digital radio signal revealing time and position accurate to a billionth of a second. A receiver on earth was able to receive the satellite data and calculate its position on the planet’s surface.

So it was for the first time that somebody with a relatively simple quartz-powered satellite radio signal receiver could get their position accurately calculated by four satellites working in tandem. Careful monitoring from earth made sure the 24 satellites remained accurate in terms of their atomic clocks and their timings and positioning. This self same technology is the one we use today to power our Garmin, Satmap or Memory Map handheld devices; though born through military innovation and necessity today’s GPS happily can be put to more useful and peaceful means.

Nowadays of course we have the benefit of adventure and handheld GPS packed with handy navigational features. You can find zoom and pan, you’ll find barometers, altimeters, detailed mapping on full colour screen and loads of options to analyse your route before and after your trip. Thanks to rapid advances in science and technology those early innovations have given rise to a fantastic range of GPS available for today’s outdoors enthusiast.

You can find a lot of handheld GPS devices these days which attempt multiple functionality across different fields of navigation. But with the latest release from Garmin, the Montana 600 series, you truly do find a satellite navigation system which allows you to get around whether you’re going by water, by car, or on foot. No expense has been spared in this premium system which is equally at home on the dashboard of your car, giving you spoken turn by turn directions, as it is out on the water, and in your hand when you are out walking the mountains. This article is a quick introduction to the Montana 600 series just talking about the basics. For a load more information on handheld and GPS devices check out my link at the bottom of the page.

Right, let’s have a chat about the Montana 600 series. You will find three different models within the 600 series, the 600 itself, which I will talk about today, and then the 650 and 650T specifications, with the “T” indicating that the unit comes with preloaded topographical maps, things which you usually have to buy apart. The 600 is the basic model, so that is the one thing I will discuss. You will find the others will not differ too much in spec.

Of course Garmin are one of the biggest players in the world of satellite mapping, and with so much market dominance they have been able to really pour their resources into the Garmin Montana 600 series. They have taken their know-how in the world of car satnav and combined it with the best features of some of the handheld GPS devices to give a really neat combination. You will notice it is a little bit bigger than your normal handheld GPS device. It is because it is designed for use on the dashboard of your car or boat and necessarily the screen needs to be a little bit bigger, at 4 inch diagonal, so that you can see it clearly.

The Montana 600 series is unique in that you can put it in your car and navigate to the waterside, take it out, stick it on the dashboard of your boat, across the lake, get to the other side, take it out and then load up the map so you can go straight up the mountain without getting lost. It’s equally comfortable in any of its three modes of navigation. On the water it will make use of the BlueChart G2 preloaded cards, in the car you can use Navigator NT and Garmin GB Discoverer which give spoken turn by turn directions, and then for other activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and the like you have the normal GB Discoverer range, and the Birdseye Select. If this all sounds a little confusing or if you are not familiar with Garmin and their range of mapping add-ons, as I said please follow the link below where you will find more information Garmin and other GPS devices.

One of the great things about the Montana 600 series is the dashboard and the interface. Big colourful icons make the touchscreen easy-to-use, and you can arrange your dashboard however you like. The home screen has an option to allow you to customise 16 different features including “Address”, “Map”, “Where To?” “Shortcuts” and many more. You can find various screenshots if you follow my links at the bottom of the screen and explore this device a little bit more. Sometimes describing something in words is a little bit tricky so have a look at the pictures to learn more. Suffice to say, with the big screen and excellent resolution this is one of the most user-friendly GPS around.

Okay, there is a whole lot of things I haven’t spoken about on this device, including the battery life, capability for geocaching and points of interest and a whole lot more. I hope you’ll follow my link below and find out a lot more about this and other GPS devices. Really GPS is quite a complicated world, and the best thing to do if you are thinking about buying one is to have a thorough look at what is on offer and compare and contrast. Thanks for reading.

One of the best designed and the bestselling GPS devices available today, the Satmap Active 10 Plus has a load of features which makes it outstanding in the great outdoors. This device is strongly built, and it is a GPS powered by specialised SD cards which allow a rendering of the Ordnance Survey maps, much loved across the country. The Satmap Active 10 Plus is very easy to use, you simply insert the SD card and the system will generate your area map in full-colour.

Finding your position couldn’t be easier on the Satmap Active 10 Plus, as this full-colour 3.5 inch screen allows excellent vision, excellent in darker conditions and even in bright sunlight. This GPS is waterproof, very sturdy, and fits well into your hand. The mapping range covers the UK, with the excellent ordnance survey maps, and also you can find maps for America, Europe and beyond. You should never have any problems finding mapping for where you are going, and the detail that the Satmap Active 10 Plus provides is superb.

Highly detailed maps, in full-colour with full topographic features are generated when you insert the SD cards into the side of the Satmap Active 10 Plus. The detail is as good as any paper map, and you will do all the familiar contours, natural features, trails and symbols. It is as close as you can get to having the Ordnance Survey maps right there in your hand, with the additional bonus of the GPS device putting you right in the map and adding a whole load of navigational features. You can pan out, allowing you to see your environs and the route ahead or alternatively you can zoom right in on your position to check out your exact whereabouts. It’s really up to you.

Thinking about the practicalities, the Satmap Active 10 Plus does come with rechargeable AA batteries, although as always with any GPS it is always good to have a couple of spares in your bag. The Satmap Active 10 Plus is not entirely small compared with some of the devices you may find on the market today, but neither is it overly big in your hand, and indeed some users like it for its size. The device is powered by buttons on the front and side, easy to use, and sturdy.

The best way to describe the Satmap Active 10 Plus would be versatile and practical. Really, you can take this GPS device anywhere you want to use. If you are looking for a simple and straight navigational tool, you can employ the electronic compass and directional navigation aid simply to get around on your computer-generated map. If you are more into the features, there is plenty of stuff to get into with this GPS, plenty of tools including route planning, route analysis and PC downloads. It is strong and sturdy, and scores well in the reliability department with a strong GPS fix. You will need to consider the length of the batteries, and consider taking a couple of spare AA batteries out with you on the track.

Did you know that you can make and receive calls from anywhere in the world at rates lower than even the ones you use in your country. If you did not then now you know. With world phones and international Sim cards, you are able to communicate from any part of the world with friends, family and even conduct business in the most efficient way. GSM cell phones attached to an international Sim card with global coverage offers the best means of communication for businessmen, researchers and also travelers who wish to communicate using their existing cell phone service.

Whenever one is outside the United States and a few other countries, those who have global phones conduct their communication on one unified standard known as the Global Services for Mobile. The GSM requires only a GSM mobile phone and a Sim card, which is connected to a local wireless carrier to the country that one is visiting. The international cell phones service is available to GSM and SIM-Unlocked enabled cell phones. The global phone is a GSM enabled cell phone, which operates on frequencies of 900, 1800 and 1900. A world phone, which is unlocked, can operate with any Sim card in Europe.

With an international cell phone one only needs a Sim card to be able to communicate across the globe. The Sim card is the chip that enables the phone to connect to a network and facilitate communication. Most of the International Sim cards in the market today are prepaid. They maybe purchased for specific countries so as to get local phone numbers which are avenues for cheaper call rates. These call rates are most often accompanied by free incoming calls. An international Sim card is also characterized by low cost outgoing calls to any nation across the world.

There are several kinds of International Sim cards which one can use with their GSM phones to be able to communicate to and from anywhere across the globe. There are international Sim cards for all the larger international countries like: American, Australian, Canadian, British, French and several other Sim cards. Apart from just the reduced call costs, one also enjoys reduced data prices. These are very useful to businessmen who might need to keep updated on information concerning the flow of stocks in other markets from wherever they are.

Even though the charges, which are wavered on international calls, may vary from one destination to the other, they are generally very steep compared to the charges on the international roaming fees. Another advantage to the global phones is that one is able to choose between the country specific and multi-country SIM cards for the one that suits their style and also coordinated with their travel plans. The multi-country Sim card is perfect solution for businesses that have branches in several countries since clients will be able to contact them at any time and from any location. This makes it very convenient since they can still easily conduct business even while on trips in different locations.

When traveling internationally make sure you do your research and get an international cell phone or a world phone with a global SIM card or international SIM card. Find out how these phones can save you big money on your international roaming fees.

When switching to a new cell phone, the user just has to take the SIM card out of the old phone and insert it in the new phone.

To create a standard for a mobile telephone system that could be used across Europe, in 1982, the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) created the Groupe Spcial Mobile (GSM). In 1987, a memorandum of understanding was signed by 13 countries to develop a common cellular telephone system across Europe. Led by Torleiv Maseng, the cellular phone system was created by SINTEF. Also in 1987, the release of mobile phones in Germany, C-Netz, included a card with a chip referred to as a “smart card.” This greatly boosted its capacity.

In 1989, the responsibilities of the GSM were transferred to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). In 1991 the first GSM network was launched by Radiolinja in Finland with joint technical infrastructure maintenance from Ericsson. By the end of 1993, there were over one million subscribers using GSM phone networks. At the time, 70 carriers across 48 countries were in place.

In 1993, Telecom Australia deployed a GSM network outside of Europe and the first hand-held GSM mobile phone was released. In 1995, data, fax, and SMS messaging services became commercially available. The first 1900 MHz GSM network became operational in the US. In 1996, pre-paid GSM SIM cards were launched. In 1998, GSM subscribers surpassed 100 million.

In 2000, the first commercial GPRS services were launched. In addition, the first GPRS compatible handsets were released. In 2002, the first multimedia messaging services (MMS) were introduced. Also, the first GSM network in 800 MHz frequency band became operational. A CDMA SIM card called the R-UIM or Re-Useable Identification Module was made available in China in 2002. It will eventually be available across the globe. In 2004, GSM subscribers exceeded 1 billion worldwide.

By 2005, GSM networks covered more than 75% of the global cellular network market. There were over 1.5 billion subscribers. In 2007, the launch of the first HSUPA network took place. In 2008, GSM subscribers exceeded 2 billion worldwide. SIM is a portable memory chip that is inserted in cellular phones and activates the cell phone when inserted. The SIM contains such vital information the phone number and the carrier that provides the card and rates. When traveling abroad, you can get international SIM cards to make roaming chargers much cheaper. The sim card is the heart of the cell phone.

Save on long distance roaming charges with a world phone or international SIM card from Brightroam. International SIM card drastically reduce the amount of roaming charges on your phone bill!

With so many people using cell phones today, racking up enormously high cell phone bills while traveling has become a common occurrence. When many people travel, they will not think about the charges they are accumulating and are shocked when they return home to find a huge bill waiting for them. Unfortunately, travelers such as the business traveler cannot afford to leave their cell phones at home which make it harder for them to avoid a high cell phone bill. Fortunately, travelers can save money when they use an international cell phone.

An international cell phone is categorized as a GSM mobile phone that operates on the GSM 900 and GSM 1800 frequency. An international cell phone with the correct SIM card will provide coverage in many countries such as Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, etc. SIM cards may be purchased online for an increasing number of international destinations. A SIM is the small circuit card that fits inside the cell phone. It gives the cell phone its unique identity. Most of the international cell phones work on GSM networks that function at 900 MHz or 1800 MHz. The US and Canada GSM networks work at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz.

An international cell phone (GSM 900/1800) is ideal for those traveling abroad and need to use a cell phone as the prices are very cheap. You can even get International Prepaid Calling Cards that work for international cell phone calls. As long as the international cell phone will work in the destination country, travelers simply sign up for a carrier’s international calling plan and use an existing mobile phone for voice, texting, and data roaming. These international voice plans can save a traveler a lot of money.

The prepaid international calling cards are a good choice with an international cell phone as they offer a better price, PINless option, instant recharge option, and they are very convenient. For international calls made on a cell phone that has the International SIM card, prepaid calling cards are invaluable. Calling card companies can offer better rates because their focus is on the phone lines only. You can also sign up for Skype. You will activate a Skype to Go number or download and install the Skype mobile application for smartphones. A Skype to Go number is a local number that provides entryway to call outside the country in order to save money on roaming charges.

There are a number of benefits to replacing the SIM card that came with your phone with a SIM card that works abroad. For instance, you do not pay roaming charges for local in-country calls even though you are calling back to your own country. Also, you will pay international long distance charges. If people want to reach you within the destination country they don’t pay for the international calls. Buying a SIM card from a company offering cheap international calling plans is a great way to save money on international calls. You have lower per-minute rates and SIM cards are very affordable. There are a number of companies that offer international travel phones and/or sim card making it easy and cheaper to call home from international destinations.
