Recent Innovations Turn SmartPhones Into High-class Safety Devices

Normally you might think of phones and driving as a frightening duo. While recent studies have given phones a bad name on the road, creative innovators are now helping people use their phones to keep them safe while on the road.

A new SmartPhone app called my911 utilizes new crash detection technology to potentially save lives. After an accident, it automatically makes an 911 call and gives the victim’s coordinates to the emergency services so they can immediately come to the scene of the accident (much like OnStar). This will be particularly helpful when a car accident has rendered the passengers unable to call 911. For example, often times people involved in an accident receive concussions, are unable to move, or are unconscious.

CNN recently reported that a man was found 4 days after his car accident. The man was severely injured and was unable to make a call on his phone. Eventually he was found by using signals from his cell phone. This man’s story would be different had he had this app. He would have been located within minutes, rather than long hours. Luckily for him he was still alive, but all people will not always have such amazing luck. Because my911 has GPS tracking, it makes sure that a lost traveler is never left helpless. It also provides a $10,000 abduction money for information leading to the recovery of a kidnap victim. Parents can now rest easy knowing they can track their teenagers, and be sure their loved ones are not in harm’s way. By the touch of a button, up to five phones can be notified of GPS location in case of emergency. What a relief for worried parents!

The my911 app also has speeding notification, traffic alerts, $30,000 Medivac coverage, $30,000 search and rescue coverage, and the app knows the different emergency phone numbers in all countries (000 in Australia, 112 in Europe).
