MP3 Accessories for the Uninitiated

Music soothes the savage beast, and MP3 accessories bring the beauty to the beast. Whether you listen to rock and roll, country, rap or Abbott and Costello radio jaunts, the fact that you can choose what you hear rather than disc jockeys that play the same song over and over, MP3 players have become a mainstay in virtually every household.

One day, when the Immigrant Song came blaring over the radio for the ten thousandth time that morning, I went begging to my wife for her hand me down MP3 player, not knowing it would afterward send me into a flurry of shopping for MP3 accessories. This gave me the idea of coming up with a small shopping list.

Cases are mainly for protection while keeping Led Zeppelin within ears ready reach, but they come in virtually every color under the sun. You can choose black or silver for undetectable wear under your suit while at work or, if you want, chose the studded red case that matches your best handbag to make the undeniable statement I am woman, hear me roar!

The MP3 accessories showing the most prospects for personality may be the clips. They could be as simple as a pin for hats or ornate enough to match your best 1980′s acid washed blue jean jacket. Couldn’t you just see the brooch with Bluetooth technology streaming Kenny G and lulling her highness into a state of grace?

Armbands are great for those who are athletically minded or else just like wearing lots of spandex. When a pocket or a place to clip your MP3 player to is not available, and armband will rescue you from unsightly bulges. Arm band are a big lifesaver on this count. Just make sure your favorite headset cable is a nice length. With all the biking, running and rock climbing you will be doing, the last thing you need is to get tangled.

I have in fact become so attached to my player that I have opted for one of what I thought were unnecessary MP3 accessories, docking stations. I have one beside my bed so I can listen to every STYX song before I go to sleep. I also have one in the shower so I can sing Journey to my heart’s desire as if I was a cast member of GLEE.

The most versatile of MP3 accessories are headphones and earbuds. They can be a few dollars or a few hundred dollars, depending on if you want them for audio clarity or because they look like Mickey Mouse. They can be large, hard, squishy and gooey but are there for your choice in comfort and taste, just don’t eat the ones that look like M&Ms.

I will admit at work that using the player with the MP3 accessories has kept me out of trouble, virtually becoming a babysitter of sorts because I don’t hear all the gossip that gets me into trouble. It’s really too bad keeping my kids out of trouble isn’t so easy.
