Exploring The Truth About Reverse Phone Lookup Directories
There are databases all over the world that contain our personal information. Some of these are accessible to the public while others have access restricted to law enforcement or government agencies. Reverse phone lookup services (also known as gray pages) are one type of database that have both limited and public access.
They are a collection of data very similar to phone books, including the resident’s name, address and phone number. The difference is that in reverse phone look up directories that information is sorted by the phone number and can be searched that way.
Concern has arisen in the past about whether or not gray page directories pose a privacy risk. Since they contain the same limited information that other directories do and are simply sorted differently, they should carry a similar amount of risk. Phone numbers are an accepted form of personal identification. Residents can limit that by delisting their phone number and likely removing themselves from public gray page directories.
Residents in Canada and the United States can opt for a delisted number. They will pay a minimal fee and can likely expect to have fewer marketing and phone solicitations occur. The phone number and general information will still be accessible to law enforcement agencies, the government and emergency services just as it has always been.
Cell phone numbers cannot yet be delisted. Cellular providers each have separate databases and they are not collected into a centralized location. This makes it more difficult to obtain information through a reverse phone lookup, although more and more demand for this service is arising.
The data collected in reverse phone lookup directories is the same as in others, but is handled in a unique and convenient way. With the widespread use of the internet and global, mobile technologies, this type of database is well used and sought after by businesses and the general public.
